Seems a bit of a leap to Charcot's Arthropothy from a broken bone - do you have other problems with your feet - Charcot's is a rather severe form of this condition - I would have thought you would have been aware of some of the other problems - loss of sensation etc - well before this.
You say you are 'recently diagnosed' - can I ask how recently? Your levels seem to be quite well controlled - what readings were you getting when you were first
diagnosed?
Neuropathy is usually caused by badly controlled diabetes - you would have needed to have had high levels for quite some time for it to have taken effect -
have they not investigated any other causes for your problems - or have they just assumed 'diabetic must be this' attitude that sends you away like a 'good
little boy'? Sorry, getting on my high horse here - but doctor' are notorious for 'blaming' diabetes for anything that goes wrong - make sure they've investigated all the
avenues.
As for whether anyone on here suffers - I think Lilyth does, she might have some advice for you - I have problems sometimes, but my doc is not sure if it is neuropathy or restless leg syndrome - I have my doc trained now!!!! - he investigates everything before telling me 'you're diabetic, learn to live with it'.
Hope you manage to get it sorted, you say you're not allowed to drive at the moment, is there any particular reason for that, neuropathy shouldn't be that bad?

Hello
I am an adult with diabetes typ1.the non diabetic people body uses 2 kind of insulin.Basal to control the blood suger in 24 hours even they eat nothing and a bolous one when they have meals.so I think Lantus as a basal insulin is not enough.I should take another insulin to cover the meals.it could be humalog(lispro)or novolog(aspart) as bolous.so I think you should consult her doctor for this.with lantus as base and humalog as bolous my blood suger is under good control.
with best wishes

Hi!
Your best bet is to ask a physician, probably a pediatrician. These situations should be discussed with a trained medical professional and not accepting information from just anyone on the internet. Good luck and please let us know how you make out.

Emm.. No that isn't a stupid question and yes it can also affect your hands as well. I only posted about legs and feet as they are the only extremeties that I have problems with.
I am being treated with some very strong painkillers from my doctor who is very good. If it affects your hand to the extent you find it hard to carry out normal daily living then you really should see your doctor about some painkillers. I am on Tramadol as they are morphine based painkillers but then they have alot of work to do! I also have arthritis.

Hi,

I am so pleased after reading all of your postings. It sounds as if the best thing you ever did was have your gall bladder removed! Just take the exercise easy for a while and don't tire yourself out too much.

Take care!

Many Blessings,

If you're on Medicare, you should be able to go to any doctor that you
want to. For diabetes, you'd want to have a general physician as well
as an endocrinologist. If you're diabetes isn't too bad, a general
physician should be alright. If you have complications, you'll
definitely need an endocrinologist. It also sounds like you might
need a podiatrist to help with the feet problems and you'll need to
see an eye doctor on a regular basis. If I were you, I'd go to a
general physician first and get his recommendation. Check the phone
book for doctors, and when you call up for an appointment, just be
sure that they take Medicare.

Hope this helps!

Hey Sanjay,

I ***definitely** recommend she consider trying natural animal insulin -- it
is much more like natural vertebrate insulin. But because she is a type 1
diabetic (like me) her body developed antibodies to attack the insulin her body
produces naturally.

Using insulin like Humalog and Lantus are manufactured to appear similar to
human insulin, but her body reacts negatively (swings in blood sugar -- high
and low) because it does not work correctly with her brains response to blood
sugar level.

I make this suggestion because I had the same problems with Humalog and a
litany of synthetic human insulins, since 1985. I never had the chance to try
natural animal insulin -- but if I had, it would've saved me decades of erratic
<!--more-->
blood sugars.

I hope this helps!! If you'd like to give it a try -- discuss the interest
of doing so with your doctor. I'm sure he'll have never had the request (mine
hadn't) -- but my doctor is thrilled with the response we've seen in my blood
sugar control and overall feeling of **normalcy**. I can give you some
guidance on importing the insulin (it's not made in the US -- no Big Pharma
company doe$$ it anymore).

Best always,
