> Thanks for the reply Duncan. Do you have any idea on how much lemon to
> use in water? thanks sheila
>

Researchers used a couple of tablespoons of lemon in a glass of
water, five times daily, to reduce kidney stones. They stressed
they did not use sugar. This won't really give you enough daily
potasium because essentially you're using it up just to offset
this issue, but you can also find potasium citrate or chloride (I
use "No-Salt" brand) to offset depletion caused by sodium excess.

To add to Rachel's point on cravings, when cravings are not just
the glucose roller-coaster talking, MOST cravings are caused by
trace mineral deficiencies, and they can only be alleviated by
supplying the correct mineral. Trace mineral supplements have
<!--more-->
even been used to reduce aggressive behaviour and other mood
issues. I do agree on the omega-3 oils, but be warned that flax
oil does not supply or convert to EPA and DHA in adequate
amounts, thus my Budwig Diet revision uses undenatured whey and
fish oil.

Rapid weight gain and kidney stones are two conditions of many
that can relate to potassium deficiency.

Edema is caused by a salt imbalance; the body swells up as excess
sodium depletes the potassium.

Further, recent research highlighted the use of lemon water or
potassium citrate to dissolve and prevent kidney stones. Both
were successful.

Rachel,

First of all, thanks for your reply. My rapid weight gain came from the fact
that i stopped smoking in oct then shortly after a pregnancy in which i gave
birth in aug of the following year. I gained little over 70 lbs from quitting
alone. Since the weight gain my blood pressure went up, sugar is up and now i
deal with the uric acid stones.

Sheila

Hi Sheila in Ohio,

I don't know anything about kidney stones. But you mentioned rapid
weight gain which lead to diabetes. Was there a reason for the rapid
weight gain (such as pregnancy), or is this something to worry about?
<!--more-->
I don't think this is phrased properly, but I am wondering if the reason
for the weight gain also lead to diabetes and kidney stones - and is a
sign of something else going on in your body. Large rapid weight gain
in itself seems unusual.

Rachel

An email crossed my desk yesterday on the subject of using lemon
water, about 5 cups daily, to reduce the occurrence of kidney
stones. Potassium citrate also worked; it apears to be the
alkalinity and the water that help.

Most of us are deficient in Potassium anyway, and deficiency
results in disease, so it wouldn't hurt and may help a lot to
take various potasium supplements. I salt my food with "No-Salt"
and I don't even use Celtic sea salt any more.
