mitesarcoptes scabiei.it is 300 million cases
anually.it affects all ages and both genders and is
found more in women and children, and in winter
the scabies mite is a parasite that completes its
entire life cycle on humans. the female mites invades
the skin through a burrow. mites crawl on warm
skin.the female lays eggs in the burrows and the
larwae emerge in two to three days. about 5-15 female
mite live on an infected host
scabie is transmitted by direct skin-to-skin contact.
transmission also takes place through shared clothing
or bedding. symptoms of scabies includes intense
itching on the body especially at night.burrows are
present in the finger webs wrists axillae elbows and
buttocks. identifying the mites, eggs eggshell
fragments, or mite pellets makes diagnosis. skin
scraping are obtained and examined under the
microscope
treatment is done with permethrin and lindane, the two
most studied topical substances.other substance
include benzyle benzoate and crotamitone.a study on
these productsshowed acure rate at three weeks to be
51%.bezyle benzoate can cause local burning pyrethrin
has been used as aerosol spray but should not be used
to person with asthma.
ivermectin hasbeen used in tablet forms as a single
dose and was found to be effective.itshould be used as
first choice in elderly and patients having exzema.
bed cloth should be washed with hot water and
beddings and cushions treated with aerosol.it is
necessary to treat all the family members simultaneously.
