Diet Tips for us

Monday, January 29th, 2007

South Beach does have its good points.
Just so you know, I am 42 and have the Metabolic Syndrome. I found a
resource at amazon.com that laid out some diet and weight loss tips in
a straight forward way.
Called "Dr. Buynak’s Diabetes Diet 1-2-3"
Other than that I’ll keep looking.

What is happening to me and what do I do about it?

Sunday, January 28th, 2007

I could use some of the expert advice I see given here.
During the past year I began eating very badly. No good reason.
The more sweets I consumed, the more I wanted. It got to the point
that I was living on junk: a couple of sugary soda pops a day,
cookies, Twinkies, lots of high carb foods. I finally decided
to diet, and I bought a bg monitor to avoid ketosis, because I
thought it was dangerous. I had no thought of diabetes and no
symptoms of it. However, my bs was in the
150’s after I began the diet. I found Bernstein’s web site,
went on a 6/12/12 gram diet, and have felt awful since. I went
into ketosis (middle level purple) w/in two days of beginning the
6/12/12 diet. I am having episodes that seem to be hypoglycemia.
I shake, sweat, am very dizzy, and have a "going crazy" sensation. I
almost black out. Eating stops it.
Today I almost passed out in my car on the way to eat

Anyone have a good book on diet for someone newly diagnosed with type
2 diabetes. No Adkins gimmicks- I’ve tried that.

Re: OT–microwave cooking

Wednesday, January 24th, 2007

I personally think microwave ovens are very unhealthy and would never use
one again, despite the fact that I used to use if for everything and kept
denying that they were harmful, until I just could no longer deny the
evidence I’d read.
Here are 2 websites on the alleged harmful effects of microwave ovens that
were recently posted on other listservs:

The Proven Dangers of Microwaves

Here is an article for your consideration:

From the article above:
Ten Reasons to Throw out your Microwave Oven

From the conclusions of the Swiss, Russian and German scientific
clinical studies, we can no longer ignore the microwave oven sitting
in our kitchens. Based on this research, we will conclude this
article with the following:

1). Continually eating food processed from a microwave oven causes
long term - permanent - brain damage by "shorting out" electrical
impulses in the brain [de-polarizing or de-magnetizing the brain
tissue].

Chromium helps control blood sugar

Sunday, January 21st, 2007

Chromium picolinate is one of five featured "Super Nutrients" in the
January 16 issue of Newsweek magazine. Several research studies have
shown that chromium picolinate provides significant improvements in
glucose, insulin and blood fats. It has also been shown to decrease
LDL (or "bad") cholesterol, and increase HDL (or "good") cholesterol.
Furthermore, research has shown that chromium picolinate yielded
significant improvements in such behaviors and symptoms as
overeating, hostility/interpersonal sensitivity, fatigue, and
depression.

The most clinically tested forms of Chromium Picolinate can be found
in the following products:

Diachrome and Chromax

Re: Metabolic syndrome (was common in treated schizophrenia)

Saturday, January 20th, 2007

Now that we’re on the subject metabolic syndrome, I’d like to
point out its three biggest causes - diet, toxin load as well as
lack of exercise.

Impaired HGH growth hormone release is behind metabolic syndome
in otherwise healthy people.

The easiest way to directly impair growth homone release and thus
metabolic rate is by eating carbohydrates. Carbs have recently
been identified as disease-causing; first the reseachers nailed
potatoes as a cause and the others aren’t far behind. Carbs also
result in acidity of the lymph, which impairs cellular
metabolism.

The most direct way to suppress metabolism with toxins in your

Re: Mercola (was latest medical crisis….)

Are you saying that he claims that microwaves are worse than they really
are?

<<And another page talks about what homeopaths know - which is refuted by
every homeopath on the planet and degrades homeopathy and what it really
is.>>

I did a search for "homeopaths" on mercola.com and didn’t notice any
statements about homeopaths that I perceived as negative. Do you remember
any more specifics about what he said or how he misrepresented what
homeopaths know?

I don’t think he has/takes time to thoroughly research most of what he puts
on his website, and he’s into promoting products he sells or is affiliated
with, but I find that he comes out on the right side on the vast majority of

Metabolic syndrome common in treated schizophrenia patients

Thursday, January 18th, 2007

Metabolic syndrome is treated in part by using foods that tend to
keep metabolism higher, eliminating foods that suppress it, and
also with supplements such as amino acids or HGH shots that
elevate muscle growth and metabolic rate.
