fibrinogenase and fibrinolyics

I was intrigued with the fibrinogenase Irene mentioned to make her
case better on the (non)safety of oral enzymes… so, I looked it up.

And fibrinogenase a strong anti-coagulant extracted from snake venom.
It breaks down the enzyme that induces coagulation or formation of
clotting fibrin before the clots are formed, and a side effect is
bleeding can and does occur. That’s how the snake kills things.

A fibrinolytic on the other hand breaks down blood clots that are
already formed. This is a big difference, a huge difference. The
fibrinolytic enzymes are not anti-coagulants; this is why bleeding
doesn’t usually occur.

Irene, you’ve worked with enzymes; confusing a potent anti-coagulant
with a fibrinolytic cerainly merits a refresher :-)
