Hi,
Why do you not recommend Novolog? (Are you a doctor or are you
discussing a personal perspective from your own experience or? Please
put this in context?)

It’s not the same as Humalog though it is also a fast-acting Insulin,
not quite as fast as humalog.
Novolog is the USA trade name for Aspart and is a rDNA derived insulin
and not made from animal or human source. I have only a couple weeks
experience with it - but my only other option would have been
Humalog/Lispro and my doctor feels the latter is *more* likely to cause

allergic reaction.
Does she have it backwards you say?

> It is not as bad as Lantus (Glargine)

Not as bad as Lantus in what way please?
I do not see the comparison. Lantus is a long-acting insulin - the
opposite end of the spectrum?

What foreign proteins?
There is no protamine in Novolog.
Human insulin would definitely have foreign proteins.
We are using Novolog specifically to avoid that.

This seems very important - please discuss it more?
It’s pretty difficult to find definitive allergy info on the internet -
at least I missed it :-)

I have found that Novolog reaches peak effectiveness after 30 to 45
minutes - I have not yet narrowed it more closely - so it certainly
begins action sooner than that.

I am still fine-tuning when to take Novolog for the typical meals I use.
And I am getting close to doing so. However it is also dependent on what
you eat. Slow carbs may need a second part of the dose after the meal,
otherwise your glucose is controlled after an hour but then goes up
again as slow carbs get digested.

> It also leaves ths system faster - maybe 2 hours? check!

No it takes about 5 hours to lose effect though the residual effect is
relatively small. I find it is enough to hold me between meals without
other meds, so I am liking using it.

Sounds interesting - I plan to look this up.

I agree.
And with alternative health professionals :-) .

I look forward to more on your concerns about Novolog. It’s quite a new
item I gather and as I am a new user, I like to collect info where possible.

Namaste,
IRene

yes - as I wrote I have compared the novo and lily products and the ones
I have seen here in australia show that the preservatives in Novo are a
little bit more and varied than in lily. I am sensitive and this makes a
difference to me. There are also side effects of all of them and I get
the insulin deotoxed using the high tech homeopathy regularly. And use
as little as possible for me

yes - I have heard they cary

okay. You have to find what is right fof you.
the other option - what I use is The Actrapid (Novo) but I use the Lily
version - Humulin R. This is the closest to what your body makes naturally

I mean in terms of severe reactions - not how it works!

Insulin is a protein. These insulins are proteins that have had their
molecular structrue altered to make them work super fast or super slow.
They then become a foreign protein. They are a genetcially modified
substance not found in our bodies naturally or in nature.

it is faster acting than actrapid so I assume it has been altered. I
    will look into it though

it is not in the conventional medical view. This is from my and others
investigating. There is info online about problems with all human
insulin which is quite interesting. There is a hige website about
people’s experiences from changing over from the animal insulins which
seemed to work better. But these days I wouldn’t really like to inject
animal insulins either though I did when firt diagnosed.
