diabetes and bee pollen
Many people who are on insulin have wildly swinging blood sugar levels.
Not a little like is commonly described for the rest of the population.
Injecting insulin is a precarious thing.
It is a huge blessing in that it allows us the time to explore the
options and to heal. I often reflect that if I had been born in my
grandmothers time I would not have been afforded this luxury and people
with diabetes died a rapid and painful death.
the experience I have with extremely high blood sugar levels has given
me some indication of the agony that they endured. When you need to
urinate so urgently that it is unbreable or you are so thristy that
water does not seem wet enough and your body aches like your muscles are
weighted with lead, and there is no relief - that can’t have been too
much fun. anyway….
however when you inject insulin you can easily experience life
threatening hypoglycemia if a situation arises that too much insulin for
you is present or if you miss a meal, you excercise more than usual or
any number of reasons.
People with diabetes are advised to carry a form of rapidly acting
glucose to remedy this situation and avoid losing consciousness. The
extreme low blood sugar is again extremely uncomfortable, results in a
hangover feeling often with disorientation and a headache that nothing
but sleep and time will remedy, with the possibility of becoming
comatose. People with type 1 diabetes are often extremely brittle in
their swings meaning they can swing from high to low several times in
one day. this is extremely destabilising.
The medical approach is to carry jelly beans or pure glucose tablets for
this situation. When I began eating wholefoods and then macrobiotically
all those years ago this was no longer an option. Initially I tried
barley malts, rice malts, amasakes etc. But they left me with tooth
problems. Even dried fruits did this.
Although I inject the least amount of insulin possible and have very
high blood sugar these days because the swings felt worse, I still beed
to carry something - when out, esp when driving etc and it needs to be
easy to access and take.
somehow I happened on the idea of carrying around a little glass jar of
bee pollen. This has been the most amazing breakthrough. Now, I hardly
use it, but it gives me peace of mind and does not destabilise me like
the other alternatives. In fact, it brings my blood glucose levels up to
the normal level without following it up with a slower release
carbohydrate that is recommended my the medical way following glucose
tablets or juice or candy bars!
It seems to have an intelligence. It is also handy for middle of the
night low blood glucose which can be frequent and doesn’t require eating
food at night which doesn’t feel good.
Only a small amount is needed - 1teaspoon to a few tablespoons chewed
up. It is extremely potent - it takes 1 bee six weeks to produce one
teaspoon - which is probablyu why it is known in chinese medicine as a
very potent chi tonic. Though it more balanced and less expansive than
honey or royal jelly (which doesn’t seem to work for this effect.)
I am still aware of its extreme properties but when examined in the
scheme of things and while healing it seems the best juice on many
levels. If anyone has any other ideas or experience I would love to hear
them…..

I guess. Though you can work on the carb content of most things - they
are handy and handy is important in these situations. For me the bee
pollen has fulfilled those criteria but everyone is differernt. what was
nice was that a hypo could then become an opportunity to actually
consume something beneficial - an amazing antioxidant rich, energy
tonifying, blood building substance that has been revered as such for
millenia!
yes. Lantus/Glargine - one is a trade name or something - like Lispro
and Humalog or whatever!
you may want to think about it….
I came across some info on problems including some trial participants
not surviving (!) but I don’t know the circumstances. There are many
unanswered questions about it - and a lot of things.
another thing I found info on is the Dead in Bed syndrome. Charming as
it sounds it seems to be more common (I am not into fear mongering just
thoughts ans awarnesses and research). It may be related to over zealous
attmepts to keep BGL in the "normal" range resulting in extreme
nocturnal hypos or other factors.

you may want to think about it….
Lantus made me feel generally unwell…. specifically, my joints hurt as if
I had arthritis, to the point of needing Tylenol every three to four hours,
which I rarely take otherwise.. Other than that, the ill feelings were
unspecific… I just didn’t feel well. I never got seriously ill from taking
it,
but from the first few injections it just didn’t sit well with me. I
experimented a little to see if it was my imagination, leaving it off for a few
days
and then using it again. I did this several times, and every time I’d get
the joint aches and the general feeling of whatever. I’m glad I didn’t take it
long enough to get seriously ill. It also didn’t work on me as far as
needing to use less fast acting, and that is of course its purpose. Maybe some
people’s systems are just not suited for it, for whatever reasons. Of course
when I told this to my doctor, I got the skeptical eye … and was told to try
increasing the dose !

that is one of the most reported problems. I also had extreme joint
problems.

I cannot take pain killers but this agony had me considering it. I went
to my bioenergetic homeopath who uses Mora therapy - where the frequency
of a substance can be inverted 180 degrees and sent back to the body
cancelling it out and removing the offending item. Then there was a lot
of mopping up to do from the damage it had supposedly caused. I was only
on it for 6 weeks. And the homeopath could not believe the amount of
degeneration that had occured in that time.

same here. Nothing showed up on medical tests but I had almost no
bioelectrical energy - my nervous system was "fried" and I completely
lost my appetite - before I could eat anyone out of house and home and l
lost the will to live!
> I just didn’t feel well. I never got seriously ill from taking it,

ditto
did I write this? I did the same thing!

yep. And the same thing happened again. It hurt like hell to inject - I
noted the point about crystalisation but that can’t be a good sign either…
it did for me at first - only very initially and then not at all - in
fact it made no difference to have 10 or 20 units
I believe that if we look to nature we will see some reasons. It is a
protein as all insulin is. However this is an insulin analogue - not
found in nature. It is not going thru the usual processes that protein
does - ie the GI tract but injected straight in - so no processing. It
also contains preservative (as all insulin does - some more than
others). Proteins are growth factors. In me this substance seemed to
cause a rapid and alarming increas in growth of things that had been
simmering and that I was working on with natural therapies - including
breast tissue changes in a matter of weeks (I am only 28 - was 27 at the
time) which immediately reverted to normal afterwards and extreme
pelvic pain/endometriosis - a condition of inappropriate growth as well
as severe parasitosis - all back to normal.

I get the granules in jars that are sold at health food stores.
they are not on the comb - they cost about 6-10 Australian dollars per
jar. I keep them in the fridge and have a small jar I keep in my hand bag.
there are better quality bee pollens around. A contact in the UK has a
wonderful un heat treated one that has to be kept refirgerated. The ones
I get are not refrigerated in the shop. I think these are heat treated.
I do taste them for rancidity and the taste varies from brand to brand -
some are very sweet, most are bitter, sweet. I used to eat 1 tsp to a
few tablespoons at a time when I had a hypo and found it would bring my
bgl to normal and keep it there till the next meal - sometimes I would
eat a slower acting carbohydrate afterwards but I never found it
eleveating my bgl into the very ranges as I had found with other
remedies for extrmely low bgl - it even seemd to help minimise the
body’s own attempts to do that with increased cortisol and glycogen
releas as a response to low BGL - I have very few hypos these days
because I have allergic and sensitivity reactions to the insulin so give
myself the least amount possible which has its own problems which I am
working on - but at least it has eliminated all those extreme lows and
the wild swings I experiences as a teen .
If I was using more bee pollen at home I would source the un heat
treated ones - I may still do that - thanks for the reminder.
I know of one from Europe and also in the US, I once got some great bee
pollen which came from Mt Rainier - I think…..
When it comes down to it,
just BEE happy!
there is an article i wrote on Manuka honey at my webpage.
Un heated - raw - not heated above 40 degress celcius or even less on
extraction is used in Ayurvedic medicine for Kapha disorders which
includes Type 2 diabetes. Small amounts of this type of honey - not
supermarket brands mostly do not seem to affect bgl levels too
drasticaly but should not be used in cooking or heated!
