The $ factor… Medications & Alternatives

Tuesday, August 30th, 2005

Apologies for jumping in to Duncan & Chris’s discussion-debate.

Remove the pure profit factor as a motivation of/for creating a product, be
it a pharmaceutical drug, or some form or type of alternative "medicine"…
I propose most ~snake oil~ would disappear. Remove the financial greed
factor and we definitely would lose extraordinary medicines without doubt.
But remove the money from the whole equation and those which could not PROVE
their claims <shrug> would have little incentive… IMHV-fwiw. In short they
would not waste their time to create the scams…

One other thing to consider also, most of us are ALIVE today because of what
some are calling/perceive as the "evil" drug companies. IDDM folks,
certainly are alive due to a lifestyle filled with continued GOOD healthy
habits and most definitely without any doubt to a little drug called Insulin
Without it, they die… Drugs unto themselves are definitely not a bad

I am afraid Duncan didn’t write the following, I did. I am also afraid it seems
to have been taken out of context. I was talking about alternative care
providers and their ilk. After consideration though, I think it STILL applies
to the drug companies.

Re: Kady, and a ? about ER4YBT (D’Adamo)

<<But the
diet recommended for the A-blood type is like the Macrobiotic diet -
mostly grain (complex carbs), soy, and veggies… quite low on
protein>>

I’ve read a lot of D’Adamo and a lot about him pro and con. I think D’Adamo’s
emphasis on grains is basically wrong–very few people need to eat a lot of
grains to be healthy (though some people do well w/a lot of grains). I heard
from 1 source that D’Adamo’s de-emphasized grains (even for type As) in 1 of his
latest books. I think it’s safest to avoid nonfermented soy. I think fermented
soy (particularly TEMPEH)’s very healthy for most people, particularly most
people w/diabetes.

nutrition and snake oil

Sunday, August 28th, 2005

Do you have the impression that adequate nutrition, supplements and
possibly detoxification are miracle cures? Without them you can’t heal,
so in a way they are, but they are really seen as that kind of a
revelation only by the people who say, "What? You mean I have to eat
right to remain well? Who’d a thunk it!!"

See what I mean? In the last seven decades or so we have been cultured
to NOT believe in the teachings of Hippocrates (let food be your
medicine and medicine be your food), and although doctors swear the
Hippocratic oath they do not follow those teachings, but the worship of
Big Pharmacy (Mammon) instead.

but HOW.

Thursday, August 25th, 2005

OK, Duncan, I’ll bite.

HOW does Essiac work. This ascerts that it does, but doesn’t state the
physiological changes it makes, and just "boosting the immune system" isn’t
enough, Placebo’s have been known to do that. In order to pass the snake oil
test, it needs more information on what it does.

Chris….looking for more information

PS. I just want to say, right now, the big difference between this site and the
Diabetes Int. is that just because someone stands to profit from a product does
NOT invalidate the product, in fact, if someone DOES make money from it, it
probably has merit and research behind it. Perhaps one of those "Snake Oil"
people actually DO have a miracle cure, and its sad people are too closed minded
to explore and discover. You gain experience from your mistakes, not from other

Re: Ph testing - results

Thursday, August 25th, 2005

For those testing their PH, I’m very happy to report that I have gotten mine
from the lowest acid reading up to normal PH in just a few days time. At
first I thought something was wrong with my test strips, just like someone else
said. Then I tested my husband and it showed he was in perfect range.
The two main things I’ve done is (per Duncan) to add a pinch of baking soda
to my drinking water, which tested lowest acid; and I started taking 3 caps of
Coral Calcium 3 X day. Plus Magnesium and Potassium.

I want to share another side of the FAT issue.
I just read someone’s opinion it is what we put in out mouths. That may be true
from some people. I think there are total absolutes in these things. Take me
for an example.
I used to work as an exercise instructor back in the day. I had already lost
about 100 pounds. still fat. Then started excercising like a nut. VERY
ACTIVE!! I ended up being area trainer, lead instructor. teaching (over
exercising to get the member’s jazzed), Well, I’d love to say that I lost tons
of weight, but, 6-8 classes A DAY (being an over the top motivator, I out did
everything in re to energy to jazz the members up), 5 days a week, 4 classes on
Sat and a couple on Sunday didn’t do a thing for the belly fat (my arms and legs
were already small, NEVER the belly blubber!!). My food was basically, a mug of
cream of wheat on the way to the first studio, a happy meal for lunch while
driving to another studio, repeat at dinner. this schedule was my life. I
NEVER lost the belly weight - the scale stayed the same, the measurements didn’t

Re: Digest Number 1023

Sunday, August 21st, 2005

Actually its his insulin resistance thats causing this. There are a lot of
people out there who pig out on carbs without having cravings 3 hours later.
His insulin level is spiking, and then as his carbs go down with the excess
insulin in his system, he craves more carbs to meet the heightened insulin
level. See if he cannot have his meds adjusted for this, I bet it would help
out a lot- not that the exercise would hurt any..;O)

Chris

Does he know that the high blood sugar causes the cravings? If he can curb
his diet long enough, and help it out with a good dose of exercise, and get his
levels back down in the normal range, the cravings will all but disappear.
