Re: Digest Number 999

Friday, July 15th, 2005

Rachael, I hope you can perhaps tell all of us of some of this information..;O)

The point behind this whole list is to help educate all of its members on
potential alternative means of addressing this problem we all have in
common..Diabetes.

I would like to hear of some of the most effective herbs you have used. Where
are the best accupressure points, and what vitamins you think are a direct
solution.

I admit you run the risk of having people question the methods taken, but this
is a "checks and balances" thing. We will hear a suggestion, and then all of us
will do our own research, and report back on it- good or bad. Your message will
still get out and perhaps help someone else.

Welcome to the list Rachael…;O)

From your description, it does sound like you have other underlying problems
that your Dr.s are not addressing. The flaw with the present United States
medical system is we have a lot of specialists who are REALLY good at THEIR
thing, but ignore everything else. If we are to fix our medical system, we
truly must re-embrace a holistic care system where we have talented General
Practitioners who refer us to the appropriate specialists. Too bad we don’t
compensate GP’s for their educational sacrifice as we do specialists.

From what you said, heightened need for excess insulin definitely screams
Insulin Resistance. Are you on an IR medicine now?? Its possible Avandia might
bring everything into line for you. 210 BG is not excessively high, mine was 427
on diagnoses, so I would guess your pancreas is not dead. A sulf might help you
more than glucophage, which keeps your liver from converting fat into sugar.

Greetings all, and I hope you all have great holiday plans not revolving around
food..;O)

Yes, I really WOULD like to go on a nice basal, something that would provide
say, 80% of my insulin, then allow my pancreas to suppliment and regulate my
overall insulin level without being stressed. Who needs a sulf?? This would be
optimal, for all of us I am sure. The thing is, I will not allow my body to be
beaten by my IR any longer. I am convinced the IR is more damaging than using
glucatrol, which may take 20 years or longer to burn out my pancreas. I am
acheiving a 4.7 A1C (last test 6 months ago, but my testing is remaining
consistant in the 70’s-80’s) with my present, minimal dosage meds so I am sure
the burnout is a while away.

It is my understanding that Glucophage and Actos are not the same as Avandia.
Avandia addresses IR in some mysterious way. I checked the Avandia website again

Avandia

I havne’t eh foggiest how it works. I know my sis who was on insulin long term
was started on the stuff and almost died! She was madder than a wet hen when
she did her own research and found the 2 don’t mix. so, she’s off it and
feeling much better!
Kinda makes me feel like lol when I read you WANTED on insulin, Chris, as I’m
running from using it!! I’m so terrified of injecting, I’m have to control
tears and super depression at the thought! Sadly, I never thought I’d have to
worry about it, since Ifigured my heart would take me to the North 40 before I
needed to. Well, since the new doc referred me to a cardio, and they found some
problems and gave me meds for it, I’m actually feeling a heck of a lot better
than I have in years!!
I checked the rice thingy Duncan gave the link to, but, coun’t find how to order
it. Bummer.
Will try chitosan, starting today. I’ll have to time my orals, so they won’t
be affected. I read it could block meds if taken in the same time period. This

Greetings to All..;O)

Interesting, about getting off of insulin shots. I am waiting on the edge of my
seat to hear updates so I CAN go on insulin. The only thing keeping me from
taking insulin is the jury is out on whether you can take it and Avandia
together. It would seem if Avandia compliments your bodies natural insulin,
it would be OK with commercial insulin.

Its my understanding that my glucutrol (a sulf) will burn out my pancreas even
faster, wheras if I start on a good basal to keep the required insulin
production down, I can avoid the burnout. The kicker is, I will NOT go off of
my Avandia, which addresses my Insulin Resistance, for any reason. I guess I
will just wait for pancreatic burnout first.

The information so far is combining Avandia with injected insulin has supposedly

Re: the insulin resistance 126 page report

Thursday, July 7th, 2005

I’m going to order the report. I’ll be happy to scan the pertinent
parts - including the bibliography - and put it in a Word document for those
who would like to receive a copy by email. I’ll let you know when I receive
it.

Chris …. are you talking about Type 2 diabetics? I know a lot of people
have diabetes for a long time before it’s diagnosed, but an equal number or
more are diagnosed early on when they first develop it. I always understood from
everything I’ve read that it takes a long time for a Type 2 to get to the
point where the pancreas is burnt out, like sometimes 20 years. I thought in the
beginning it was a malfunction easily correctable by exercise and a change of
diet and supplementing those minerals that diabetics seem to be generally
deficient in. Not curable, but correctable and controllable. Is this a wrong
impression?

Lets start with what I see as a misinterpretatin of what I have been saying. I
have been talking of Insulin Resistance, not Diabetes. I will add a link to the
bottom of this post that explains this further.

Merry X-mas to Cecilia..;O)

Wednesday, July 6th, 2005

Cecilia, Have a great Christmas your self. I remember the Christmas greeting
you sent me last year, and it warmed my heart..;O).

I am truly sorry you and your loved ones are going through this mess, and you
are in my prayers. I believe, along with Life Liberty and the Pursuit of
Happiness, all humans should be given the right to have good health. In this
country, that is a priviledge only the wealthy are given. Everybody else is
subject to blind luck.

Have a Merry Christmas, and remember happiness during the holidays comes from
loved ones, not the food one eats. Make your childrens Christmas the best
possible, and yours will be also.

Chris

What happens if you stop taking in trans fats (that are taking the place of
good fats), balance omega 3’s with omega 6’s, alkalize the diet, eat fresh
whole foods, and lower the demand on insulin? Couldn’t that break the
cycle? Mary J.

Doing this will make you a healthier person, and lengthen your lifespan
significantly, which is a good thing. But if your pancreas is already burnt out
to the point it cannot keep up with your needs; this is when most diabetics are
