new member intro; metabolic typing & diet; animal & non-animal foods
Hello,
My name’s Leonard, and I’m new to the list. I don’t have diabetes but my
stepbrother (and several friends) do, and I’ve read as much as I can on diet &
natural supplements for people w/diabetes (and cancer) and Syndrome X.
To a lesser extent, I think people w/blood type O TEND to do better on a
high-protein, high-fat diet, and bood type A tend to do better on a low-fat,
low-protein diet consisting mostly of (complex) carbs, but I don’t think the
correlation’s that strong.
<<Fruit of any kind sends my blood sugar soaring.
However, I happen to really dislike animal products….
if no animal products, what then do you eat?>>
From what I’ve read, I think the best non-animal foods for most people
w/diabetes are
nonstarchy VEGETABLES–celery, cabbage, avocado, asparagus, shiitake mushroom,
and especially org. LEAFY GREENS (non-iceburg lettuce, parsley, watercress,
spinach, kale, seaweed), garlic, onions
fruits (high-fiber, low-sugar, w/low glycemic index)–plums, prunes, pears,
org. apples (contain pectin), org. peaches, org. cucumber, berries (organic
strawberries, cherries, blueberries, raspberries [ellagic acid]); lemon, lime, &
pink grapefruit; tomatoes
beans/legumes (in moderation)–especially SPROUTED beans; TEMPEH; lentils, lima
& GREEN BEANS
whole grains–rice & oat bran, buckwheat; Ezekiel, Essene, & Manna SPROUTED
bread; OATS, rye, & other (ideally sprouted) grains; SPROUTED wheat-berries,
broccoli, garlic & onion
nuts– especially walnuts, coconuts, & almonds
seeds– especially raw flaxseeds & SPROUTED seeds
Since even fruits cause your blood sugar to get out of kilter, I’d probably
focus on high-fiber, nonstarchy vegetables, sprouts, nuts, and seeds (and
organic animal products).
Please let me know what foods you’d suggest I add to or delete from the above
list?
Best wishes and Happy New Year,
