Why everybody??
I have been pondering this for a while, and I am starting to change my opinion.
I think, as a whole we have a very resiliant population, and our bodies adjust
to a LOT more than we give credit too. Although as diabetics we have to closely
monitor our consumption, healthy people can enjoy a much larger variable of food
consumed.
Where I feel we do not give justice to our population is in attempting to
diagnose Insulin Resistance early enough. They predict from 30%-50% of our
youths will become Type II diabetics, which is initially caused by IR . If we
were to have in school screening of adolescents for IR, and get them on the
correct treatment 20 years before their pancreas burns out, Type II diabetes
could almost be totally erradicated in our lifetime.
Attempting to force everybody to change their eating habits might SEEM to be the
way to go, its not actually addressing the cause and effects of the disease.
Why force non diabetics to stop enjoying those foods?

Totally agree. Even if the new pyramid wasn’t absolutely correct yet, and
I’m not familiar with the details yet, it’s vastly better than the old
pyramid and it will save lives. I try to get even my non-diabetic clients
to reduce or eliminate carbs including whole grains.

A Grassroot Movement is like a lawn; there is a bigger picture we all like to
see…. but underneath there are many small roots. Each root has an influence
on the entire picture. We too can have an effect, we just need to figure out
the efficient way to do it.
