No before this is misinterpreted, I am NOT attacking, just inquiring. Its my
understanding that Type I is because of a dead pancreas that no longer produces
insulin. Do you have any kind of backup on how this process can bring a dead
organ back to life, and research or Medical reports of its success?? To date I
have only heard of transplants being partially successful.

Its my understanding that the real solution to this comes from Stem Cell
research, for they can implant new Islet Cells into an almost dead Pancreas and
bring it back to life.

-Here is a page about the trials of what is called "The Edmonton
Protocol" for beta cell transplantation, developed by Dr. Shapiro in
Edmonton, Cananda…I first read about this a couple years ago when a
friend brought me a copy of the "Saturday Evening Post" magazine,
October, maybe, 2001, which had an extensive article about it. I was
still a non-computer person at the time, so I hand wrote a letter to
this organization (Immune Tolerance Network), asking to participate
(me and probably everybody else in the world with type-1
diabetes!)….Nothing came of it. I guess the current trials have
enough people in them. At least you can learn something about it on
this site (web address near the end)…Also, they mention a new
round of trials near the end…There may be other ways or places to
get involved…The U of Minnesota, Minneapolis has a very active
research/transplantation program…I don’t know what part of the
world you live in…I will keep looking. -Linda R PS I marked the

Has he had a blood insulin test from time to time?

My daughter is a diabetic and I don’t think they ever do a blood insulin
test.

Wayne
Hi Wayne, Yes, weekly that test is done and it shows he is perfectly
controled within the guidelines he should be. That is not the case. The
checking of his blood sugar so many times in a 24hr period is the reason why
he has results that appear he is doing fine. I did order the tapes from Dr
Snow and feel we will be satisfied. He (Dr.Snow) gave several things to take
to be healed nd I orederd tapes T473 Diabetes : T 428 Colostrum , on the show
we heard Dr.Snow stated the milk from the mother is needed in the first few
days when a child is born . That is when the child gets colostrum. Calvins
mom had 10 children and all were brest fed so we know he got that but ordered

Hi Kat, Thank you ever so much you have hit the nail on the head! That is the
person I have searched for. I am ordering the tape on Diabetics for now and
will see what it says. On the program he gave different things to take that
would heal the disease and one would be cured of type 1 . The Kirael radio
archieves no longer have the information on his broadcast. But I see he does
a radio internet show and I will be checking to see when it comes back on the
air. Thanks ever so much. I have hope now and Calvin is smilling. We thank
you from our hearts as My searching the net didn’t produce results the way
yours did. In the Name of One, Sandy

Hi Sandy.

My name is Linda, and I too am a long time type-1 diabetic. Your
husband’s low’s sound really scary! He is very lucky to have you to
help him. I went to the site you gave us a link for - There is a
place there that allows you to listen to shows they already
broadcast. ‘Archives’ section. If you know the date you heard the
shows you were asking about, the ones with Dr. Snow, you can hear
them again by going first to the list of shows in the archives, and
then clicking on the date and topic you want to hear…

I have been on Lantus for almost a year and like it a lot. I also use
regular for meals. Once I got the Lantus dose right for the over-
night period, I stopped having night lows as often or as severely. -
I’ve heard NPH insulin has toxic ingredients, but I am less certain
about Lantus. I guess I figure insulin shock is about as teriminally
toxic as a person can get, so if the Lantus reduces my chance of

i am going to my doctor tomorrow, and i think he will put me on lantus. i
have heard that you can get lows with this. a lady that i know told me that her
doctor would not put her on it because she would have lows. i have had so
many lows in the past with nph and some regular that i am very anxious about
it.
iam on 4 small shots of nph per day plus humolog at meals. it is a lot of
shots, and was working ok, but i am having a lot of highs.again i was told
that i was a type 2 twenty two years ago, but probably a 11/2. i do make a
little insulin still. have you experienced many lows using lantus?. i hate
having one. guess we all do. i would love your help . thanks, ellen.

Re: Glycemic Index and Load

Monday, May 2nd, 2005

I purchased a paper-back book on Amazon that deals with this issue. It is
called "The New Glucose Revolution and it has a glycemic index with the gylemic
loads listed. It is very helpful to me. As Chris said, it shows that beans,
in particular, may have a high GL but they have a low GL so many of us can eat
them in good balance with other foods for a meal. An example for you is:
Peas, green frozen, boiled GI Value Glucose 48 (avg) out of 100
1/2 cup serving
available carb per serving 7
GL per serving 3

Common sense says that we will not eat a lot of peas (or beets which also
have a low GL but high GI) but they can be eaten in moderation.

I use this book daily. It cost less than $20.

Hi, Sue,
Yes. The glycemic index works for us.

You can check on the drugs at a library. Ask for the Physicians
Desk Reference.

Hi all. You can, if you look a little, find sites that tells foods Glycemic
Index (GI) in an easy to use database form, but this is just the tip of the
iceberg. You need to also be aware of whats called the Glycemic Load (GL). I
