GL is more important than GI

Hi, Sue,
Yes. The glycemic index works for us.
You can check on the drugs at a library. Ask for the Physicians
Desk Reference.

Hi all. You can, if you look a little, find sites that tells foods Glycemic
Index (GI) in an easy to use database form, but this is just the tip of the
iceberg. You need to also be aware of whats called the Glycemic Load (GL). I
am still unsure as to how this is calculated, but in a nutshell, what hurts us
most are the sugars that are quickly absorbed into the system, and high GI foods
that absorb slowly aren’t as bad for MOST of us. Beans for example, are much
better for us than sugared pop, even if they have comperable GI’s because beans
GL’s are low. It can take hours to process these high fiber, pure carb foods
keeping your BG’s more stable.
Keep an eye out for GL, especially if you are NOT a low carber.
Chris.
PS. I concur with what has been said before about the cat fighting. We are
supposed to be here to explore new ideas.
I just left another diabetes site when I realized they were no longer of help
to me. They are in a rut. Just to stimulate a new topic I suggested that
perhaps a homeopathic solution to sulphs, which act in a homeopathic manner,
could be found. Instead of inquisitive minds exploring, I got put down and given
links to sites biased against homeopathy. There was no exploration… only
claims that I was dangerous.
Sound familiar Duncan?, it should because this was from a site you used to
belong to and left because they did the same thing to you for suggesting carbs
were part of the problem instead of being THE problem. I am surprised you used
that line on Jewel. And Jewel, please develope a thicker skin. If we are to
explore alternatives we must question the suggestions given, then explore the
inner grain of truth found in all myths. Please just let immature posts pass
without responding. If a post has no new information, its not worth
typing….and Kat…. I dunno WHY you were responding, but do you happen to
belong to another list called Medieval_Encampments??? just curious, because you
happen to have an almost identical e-mail to one who posts there frequently..;O)
I hope you all take this in the spirit of compromise and brotherhood its
intended to be.
Chris… (Donato if Kat really IS on that list..;O)

Hi Chris,
Sorry, I don’t know what Medieval Encampments is. On the note of why I am
responding: I have seen Jewell attack people on this list for any suggestions on
alternative treatment to the degree that they left the site. Everyone has tips
for helping that may not be right for everyone but they are entitled to post
even if it conflicts with what another may believe. I am very happy with
Duncan’s information and the research he has compiled. He is allowed to state
his opinion that may contradict someone else. And, it is backed by research. I
would hate to see him leave this site because he is being attacked when he posts
info that makes someone unhappy.

This is why I said we all need to develope thicker skins. Even if
we think someone needs defending, its a waste of all of our time to
read these defenses. Its TOTALLY off topic, if you think about it.
I too think it would be a huge loss to lose Duncan, but I think he
has had enough experience (as I have had), in dealing with people
who disagree with him to disregard what they are saying with a grain
of salt… like water off of a ducks back. Lets get back to being on
topic, and leave personalities out of it!

Me personally, I just delete any such posts from that person along with
all my other spam. = ) Oh sure there may be some good information
amongst the crap, but since I wouldn’t stick my hand into a unflushed
toilet to retrieve dime store jewellry, I can’t imagine enduring her
crap just to get what little value I might out of the what that person
dishes out like god himself told her, thereby giving her the divine
right to judge what is worthy of this list and not. I still say she
should go to the normal diabetes lists where her traditional medical
‘management’ techniques would be what they are all trying to survive
with. I guess maybe that would just be preaching to the choir though..
she may feel it is her duty to ’save’ us non-traditional medical
heathens, eh? hahha
