Endo?

Thursday, April 21st, 2005

Forgive me if this is too radical an idea, but do you really need an
endo? If what you are doing is bringing your blood sugars down,
could you continue on your own and just get what tests you need to
see how you are doing through an intern or family doc? Even a
qualified naturopath (N.D.) will have access to lab tests…Perhaps a
combination of the above - General M.D. for prescription stuff, N.D.
for ideas, supplements, homeopathic remedies, etc….That’s what I do
and have done for about 30 years, now. I’m type 1, though. I think

Re: Digest Number 924

My endo is soooo backed up, getting an appointment is not gonna happen before he
is gone. he sold his practice to someon. Sent us all a letter saying so. I’ve
been w/him 1 years, and HATE to break in a new doc. My mom was a chronic
patient and wnt thru docs like tissue until finding one good. then they would
retire or move. It would all start again.
I HATE the arrogance issue. That is what I’m really concerned with. I used to
just eat it, but, as ya get older, you get bolder — If I didn’t have to worry
about a co-pay, and could just interview free of charge, I wouldn’t mind
searching.Hugs and HAPPINESS

Endo

Wednesday, April 20th, 2005

Cecelia,

I would carefully check around. I think I did the best move of my
life "getting rid of" my endo, which is considered the best in the
area. He and his dietition insited on the ADA diet, which made for
me having about 150 carbs a day. This just made my diabetes get
worse and worse for a number of years. It was a big decision to
leave him, but I getting much better, and off some meds already!
By B/S are "way down", as my new Dr. allows low carbing. I am due
for an A1C next visit, and "I am ready!"

I keep reading to see what others are doing for their diabetes. And,
I do know the first step for me was getting rid of the endo.

My endo is retiring. Been w/him since dx’d 13 years ago… Any ideas how to
search for someone new??? Like, what questions to ask, etc.

Re: Get Cholesterol Down

Monday, April 18th, 2005

Zocor is a statin drug that is known to deplete CoQ10, which can
lead to sudden death due to heart attack. Lots of info about that
so I don’t have to run it into the ground here.

Did you know that the low end of the "danger zone" at 200 total
cholesterol was originally recommended by researchers to be 250?
Setting the level at 200 made about 1/3 of the population treatable
with drugs. Here in Canada the low danger level is still the
equivalent of 250.

HDL is important. If you divide total cholesterol by HDL and get a
number of 4 or higher, there’s no danger anyway.

And here’s the kicker; actual deaths from CHD do not correspond to
cholesterol levels anyway. Never did.

Crystals

Friday, April 15th, 2005

When I went to the drug store last week for vitamins, the young clerk
told me a lady had been in, and with her crystal on a chain had held
several vitamins to determine if she needed then. She said if the
crystal went forward and backward it meant yes, and if it went side
to side it meant no.

After she left the store they all had a big ho ho.
She said she told her mother, and her mother mentioned that several
years ago, with a string and a needle the same principal applied for
the birth of a child. I remembered that and saw it done on Johny
Carsons show more than once.

She wondered what I thought of this hocus.
I told her hocus - pocus!!

coconut oil

Monday, April 11th, 2005

I’ve switched from canola oil to coconut oil for cooking…But I
don’t like the coconut flavor the cold pressed extra virgin organic
oil gives to meat or vegetable dishes. Spectrum Oil Co. has a more
processed (refined) coconut oil that they claim retains the benefits,
but avoids the liabilities of refined oils…Their organic refined
coconut oil contains no trans fatty acids, they say (I e-mailed them
about this, so can post details of their extraction methods if anyone
is interested)…This product has very little coconut taste. My
neighbor uses organic palm oil from Spectrum for all cooking and
shortening purposes…She says it adds no detectable flavor to the
dish…Do any of you who know a lot about oils have any opinions

more naturopathic - coconut oil and diabetes

Sunday, April 10th, 2005

Coconut oil (MCT) reduces triglycerides, while LCT raises them. MCT
oils raises HDL quite a lot and LDL cholesterol just a little, to
improve the ratio, which is more imporatnt than overall readings.
MCT (coconut oil) reduces overweight and fatty liver, and long-
lived mammals see less free radical damage and a may have a longer
life span than with unsaturated/polyunsaturated canola oil for
example.

Links to a lot of that are already on my website. Specific to
diabetic concerns, here’s some new stuff I pulled down that I
haven’t mounted yet:

Universal Health Care

Well, I do not endorse the Universal Health Care either, and for
exactly the same reasons.
You did a good job of stating it.
