Re: CA-125 test

Saturday, April 30th, 2005

Ladies: Sorrowfully, I must tell you that this test is not the end-all of
testing. My friend, who took very good care of herself, wound up with ovarian
cancer and died. She had a CA-125 test that was negative but she had ovarian
cancer! The test, plus a good check-up and thorough examination by a thorough
GYN is hopefully the better choice. We sometimes feel "safe’ with certain
tests which can fail us. It failed my friend, Dorothy! Just letting you know.

Re: Digest Number 929

I am fairly new to this site. Upon entering, I had questions. Jewell
answered many of them for me in a fair and kind way. One or two others of you
did
so, as well. I must say that I am very tired of reading the spats back and
forth. I understood that this was an informational site and that all could post
their ideas. When they are ideas, and unsubstantiated, it is obvious. We are
all adults here, right? Let’s act as adults and give room to every one to
express their thoughts. I have just done that and I realize that I am now
subject to the same criticism. I don’t have to belong to this site or post.
You
are scaring off those of us who have questions and need answers and ideas. We
want help, not more stress. Please help us and help yourselves. [This is my
opinion. I have not discussed this with anyone else on this site.] Ellie

New member, history

Thursday, April 28th, 2005

My husband is type II diabetic, has been dxed for 2.5 years. He’s
42. At the time of dx, his fasting blood glucose, I believe, was
over 300. He had lost 30 lbs and was having typical symptoms of
urinating frequently, weight loss, and constant hunger. He has a
family history of diabetes, father had it, adult onset insulin
dependent at the age of 60 (I think), plus pancreatic cancer. His
mother was not insulin dependent, but was taking some blood sugar
lowering med when she died of congestive heart failure at the age of
75. I don’t remember the drug name, exactly. At the same time,
his cholesterol was high - and he was started on medication:

Glucovance 2.5/500 mg 2 or 3 times a day
Lipitor 200 mg once a day

I do not know his serum cholesterol breakdown when he was dxed.

Re: HEALTHY DIET - NOT!!

Wednesday, April 27th, 2005

Hi Jewell;

The above comment is typical of the snow job we’re getting from the
oil industry.

Read it and weep….

That one’s a no-brainer, and the only close-to-valid information
he’s offered. Many fruits must also be avoided though, as having
too high a glycemic index; as readers will note, the writer appears
not to know that either. And as many diabetics will also be hosting
candida, this list will be too liberal for them as well. Scratch
most of the brown rice too, for example.

Jewell, following this fella’s instructions will promote disease.

My food –Long and Boring

Wednesday, April 27th, 2005

For you "true Low Carbers" try not to cringe at this. For me, I have a problem
w/"diets" of any kind. I got over 300 pounds by dieting and rebounding from the
depravation. I took off 100 pounds by just taking it one meal at a time, eating
smaller portions. That was decades ago, and I’ve pretty much stayed at 240.
However, 4 months ago I went to 260 and my bg was going way up. That is when I
decided to look at my health more than my food desire. The 30+ pounds I’ve
dropped have stayed gone (this morning I was 225), even tho I ate w/o caring re
the carbs, when my hubby had emergency open heart surgery 8 weeks ago. Stress
is my trigger and carbs are my release. Didn’t gain anything, so, that is good,
and my AC1 numbers show I still stayed on a better course. I am triggered by
stress. Lifelong condition. Food has been a comfort that tides me over until I
can get a grip again. Just the way I am. Not apologizing nor ashamed. Just
me…

I didn’t measure or weigh anything. I remember when I was on a no carb diet 20+

NEW NUMBERS

Monday, April 25th, 2005

Got a call that my test (the bg one for 3 months) came out at 6. something.
Much better than the 9.something last time. Low carbing has made a HUGE
difference, I’d say.
My cholesterol was 300+, so, now to deal w/that.

Subject: Endo?

Forgive me if this is too radical an idea, but do you really need an
endo? If what you are doing is bringing your blood sugars down,
could you continue on your own and just get what tests you need to
see how you are doing through an intern or family doc? Even a
qualified naturopath (N.D.) will have access to lab tests…Perhaps a
combination of the above - General M.D. for prescription stuff, N.D.
for ideas, supplements, homeopathic remedies, etc….That’s what I do

Advice Needed!

Friday, April 22nd, 2005

I went to the Health Food store this am for three new items.
The Butsher’s Broom, Cassia Cinnamon and Sea Salt.
However I left empty handed and wanted to ask for some advice first.
They had the Butcher’s Broom, Nature’s Way Brand at 7.99 for 100.
Has anyone used this brand??
On the Cassia Cinnamon, the saleslady said they didn’t have it, and
she had never heard of it. Can anyone recommend a place to purchase
it on the internet, and the brand to get.
Concerning the sea salt. The only label was just like those on the
back of cans. It never mentioned anything about having the correct
amount of nautral potassium chromium and zinc with 70-80 trace
minerals. She said she had never heard of that either….that sea
salt is sea salt. It was white, and I thought I read that sea salt
is only white if it has been processed. AGAIN, can someone recommend
a web page where I could order some that is good.

Re: Digest Number 925

Thanks for sharing, Linda. If I was a "healthy diabetic" like YEARS ago, I’d go
back to doing just that!
What is so sad about my doc retiring, (he’s considered on of the top and will
woek part time w/Children diabetics at children’s hosp) is that, he was
actually/finally willing and able to accept LC as a WOE that will work for BS.
Well, I’m not gonna just accept what ever my HMO sends my way.
The Search Begins!! (Hopeful Optimism!!)
