Intro
Hi, my name is Cindy. I joined this group because my grandma has diabetes.
Her blood sugar is out of control. She just started taking insulin after
about 5 years of taking pills that didn’t work. The insulin hardly does
anything for her. Her average os about 350, even when she hardly eats and
she’s not eating as much sweets as she used to. I moved her in with me
because she’s so forgetful. She can’t remember when or IF she takes her meds
and she’s so tired all the time. She’s a high stress person and I’m working
on getting her to relax more. She’s going to be 62 this year and has been in
disability for the last 20 some odd years for stress. She has this idea in
her head that she has to be at my moms in order for my mother to survive.
Granted, my mom does need a lot of help, I’m trying to get it thru her head
that she needs to take care of her first. She won’t be able to help anyone
if she’s too sick. I just recently found something in the paper she wants
about hydrogen peroxide curing diabetes. It’s supposed to give recipies for
curing a lot of diseases. Hopefully it will help. I’m willing to try just
about anything- alternative, herbs, whatever it will take to help her bring
her sugar down and get her back to normal and hopefully more relaxed than
normal. She’s eating better than she used to because I don’t buy the sweets
like my mom did when she lived with her but she’s still not eating as well
as she should. I was reading an email where someone said if they seen a
doughnut that was it. She’s like that, if she even thinks about one, it’s
hard to get her to eat something healthy. She used to love meat and now I
have to keep on her to eat some. She can’t stand it anymore. So if anyone’s
got any ideas, I’m definitely opened to them.
Thanks
Cindy

Hi Cindy…. Welcome to the group. Hope your grandmother realizes how
blessed she is to have you move her in with a goal of helping her. Actually
she must want to do it herself or it really won’t work for long, but if she’s
stressed to the point of being sort of confused and unable to help herself,
then you will be able to help tremendously, even if it means eating the same
foods that she does.
Does she like salads? I can’t stand meat either, but a great way to
start the protein and salad way of eating is to make a big salad with
whatever raw vegetables she likes, and put grilled or baked chicken in it. I
just use regular salad dressing on mine, because the light or low fat has
more carbs than the regular. That’s easy to do and can be used for 2 meals a
day. Until her blood sugar comes down, she’s going to stay tired all the
time.
For the stress, maybe you could coax her into letting you give her
back/leg/foot massage when her stress level is high. I’ve never known anyone
who refused a massage ! For myself, the easiest way to turn my stress level
to low is to go to my bedroom, turn off the phone and TV and get my
surroundings quiet and peaceful. A little music to meditate by or a good
book to lose myself in for a while works wonders.
Those are just a couple of suggestions. Keep reading. We don’t always
agree with each other’s thinking on this list, but will be a ton of good
suggestions coming your way. And I saw that thing on hydrogen peroxide too,
but didn’t order the book. Would love to hear what it says when you get it.
Kady
