I do NOT believe diabetes is a progressive illness...only if you continue on
the path that created it in the first place!

<description>Type 2 in my case was what I was discussing with him. Basically your body
just doesn't work correctly. This is one reason why we are seeing Type 2 in
children, now and not before. I suspect it is because we were never tested
as children. So when your body doesn't process carbs correctly, you get
over weight. So the diabetes causes the overweight, not the other around.

Now in this day and age, you may be able to adjust your eating and not
become overweight. But, in my case being 50, I was brought up to drink 4
glasses of milk, bread etc. to be healthy, instead I was just overweight.

This was based also on a study done by John Hopkins with some German
researchers. Therefore, we can all stop blaming ourselves.

<description>I think he and the researchers mean some genetic link. This is why I think
the stem cell research may cure the disease. I have never eaten as much as
my skinny friends. It is just sickening.

<description>TRUE about the TENDENCY towards being overweight...I come from a bunch of
HUGE PEOPLE! But as for being BORN DIABETIC? I'd LOVE to know where he got
THAT info! BORN with a tendency - yeah, I can buy that. But it is NOT
predestined. I have two younger sisters with the exact same genetic
history, and NEITHER of them is diabetic, though both have to struggle to
keep their weight down. ALL of us are in our 50's.

My doctor says that it is genetic and I am overweight because I was born
diabetic, not the other way around. New research in Germany supports this.
It is not normal to have to starve yourself to be a normal weight.
