For Linda Richardson
Re: Your comment: "In my experience, they have not helped nearly as much
as they might have, plus they refuse to acknowledge the immense help
available to us in alternative therapies. I am curious if others on this
list have found the arrogance of their doctors unhelpful, even destructive?"
A HUGE A M E N ! ! ! It’s why I pay little attention to any doctors, or
the ADA, for that matter, and my diabetes is totally under control (I’m type
II, though). The ignorance of the medical profession, compounded by their
arrogance, is astounding. And sickening. I do, however, follow closely for
myself and my herbal customers the advice of Diana Schwarzbein, MD, in her
groundbreaking book, ‘The Schwarzbein Principle". Should anyone on this
list NOT be familiar with it, here’s a link straight to the publisher:
I consider her book as the foundation for ALL the work I do with diabetics
around the world.

UNBELIEVABLE INFORMATION
Hi Tina. My name is Linda Richardson and it sounds like your mother and I
have a lot in common. I turned 50 last year and have had type-I diabetes
since I was 16. 11 years ago, I was diagnosed with Graves Disease
(hyperthyroid) which they treated by irradiating (destroying) my thyroid and
putting me on thyroxin meds. This has complicated my diabetes control
considerably. What sort of thyroid disease does your mother have? And what
sort of insulin regimen does she use? What is her way of dealing with diet?
I think it is horrible that a doctor would say her dark spots will never
heal. If they had any idea of the effect of such pronouncements!…It’s
flat cruel, not to mention often wrong. I’m afraid I have strong opinions
about (most) doctors…In my experience, they have not helped nearly as much
as they might have, plus they refuse to acknowledge the immense help
available to us in alternative therapies. I am curious if others on this
list have found the arrogance of their doctors unhelpful, even destructive?
Recently I started seeing a doctor I really like. Humble. Kind. What a
difference that makes!
So, I’ll look forward to learning more about you and your mother, Tina (she
is to fortunate to have you!). And I’m glad to share anything I
an. -Linda R
PS. To the person asking about Lantis - It is a slow and even long-acting
insulin, works for 24 hours. It’s supposed to mimic the steady infusion of
an insulin pump, I guess. The Humalog (or Novolog) acts fast and hard to
cover the BG spike from eating a meal, then is gone in 3-4 hours. This
system probably is used for type-I diabetics who make little or no insulin -
just a guess. It IS a lot of shots! A lot of tests too. -LR
