alcohol
Hello!
I was wondering about the concern over diabetics drinking alcohol.
I have been told by a few doctor’s that I should drink no alcohol
because it is like "mainlining" sugar to my system. This confuses me
because the dry white wine that I choose to have with dinner
sometimes contains virtually no carbohydrate and I do not need to
bolus insulin (I’m type 1, obviously) for it. Am I missing
something? Does the alcohol in my system raise my bs later due to
some metabolic quirk? I can certainly understand high carb beers and
sweet wines/cordials, but not my dearly beloved chardonnay. Any
ideas? I am a fairly new diabetic so I am not as savvy as all of you
to this!
Thank you so much!
Fiona
