"Undiagnosed diabetes"

Dear Michael,

Re: How did I KNOW diabetes was undiagnosed?

GOOD QUESTION!!! Ten years ago I developed strange feelings in my feet,
particularly the left one. Over a period of several years, they got more
and more numb, yet painful, a strange dichotomy. Seven years ago I was
hospitalized with atrial fib and many blood tests were done, yet all they
were looking at was my heart enzymes to see if I had had a heart attack.
They never even told me my cholesterol figures!

I developed many, MANY more signs of diabetes over the ensuing 7 years and
the unmerciful pain in my feet, yet terrible numbness, finally drove me to
the doctor for help. He has worked with thousands of diabetics over the
past 30 years and stated unequivocally that you do NOT get the neuropathy

FIRST without the disease. He also said he’d bet anything that the heart
specialists didn’t even SEE the blood sugar readings on those blood tests -
he has seen this happen many times, unreal though it may be.

On the basis of all of the above, I am quite certain I have been diabetic
for 10 years. Of course, all that matters is I now have it completely under
control, thank heaven!

    Linda,

I am certainly glad your diabetes is under control!

However, I would have to agree that peripheral neuropathy
    is hardly diagnostic for NIDDM.

I am new here and have a question. Do any of you follow the Schwarzbein Principle for healing your body?

  3. Dave King Says:

Hi Roxanne, I’m new, too. I read Schwarzbein recently and it seems like a
really great program. I’m considering doing it but am put off by all the
restrictions with things like caffeine and nitrates. It makes sense to
eliminate them, but it was so hard for me to give up sugary pop, I can’t
give up my diet pop now. And I’d really miss things like salami and
pepperoni. But I must admit that she’s very persuasive.

Are you following her plan or just considering it?
