Frequent viral infections

Friday, January 30th, 2004

Hi,

I just joined this group.

I have been having a terrible time this winter with
frequent viruses, colds, intestinal
"bugs," etc. I am Type II diabetic and have read that
diabetes can weaken immunity
and make a person prone to viruses.

Two questions: 1. Have any of you reading this ever
experienced the problem
of having frequent viruses, colds, etc? 2. Has
anyone FROM EXPERIENCE found
a natural remedy that REALLY helps?

"Undiagnosed diabetes"

Sunday, January 18th, 2004

Dear Michael,

Re: How did I KNOW diabetes was undiagnosed?

GOOD QUESTION!!! Ten years ago I developed strange feelings in my feet,
particularly the left one. Over a period of several years, they got more
and more numb, yet painful, a strange dichotomy. Seven years ago I was
hospitalized with atrial fib and many blood tests were done, yet all they
were looking at was my heart enzymes to see if I had had a heart attack.
They never even told me my cholesterol figures!

I developed many, MANY more signs of diabetes over the ensuing 7 years and
the unmerciful pain in my feet, yet terrible numbness, finally drove me to
the doctor for help. He has worked with thousands of diabetics over the
past 30 years and stated unequivocally that you do NOT get the neuropathy

how does diabetes make you feel?

Friday, January 16th, 2004

Hi I am new to this list, but i came here to learn about diabetes, my
husbnad is type 2 and was diagnosed last year, can anyone help me in
telling me how this dreaded disease makes you feel, how it affects
your daily life etc etc…we are seperated by an ocean right now and
until i can get back to him, i really need to hear from the horses
mouth how this goes inside a person, i realsie not everyone is the
same, but at least it will give me an idea of what i am dealing with.
My husband is also native american, so i dont know if there are any
on this list who can also assist me. He is taking pills at the
moment, but there is talk of him going to injections because his
blood sugars keep fluctuating..
Many thanks
Anne

Anyone with ‘Type I’ diabetes? Please read…

Thursday, January 15th, 2004

Hello,

I am a diabetic student studying psychology at Nottingham Trent
University (UK) and wish to ask you if you would take part in a
survey on the self-care behaviour of people with diabetes.

The study arises from difficulties many, including myself, suffer in
trying to meet all the complex demands placed on us if we are to
successfully manage the condition.

The aim is to produce a simple questionnaire that will be useful to
diabetics and their clinicians.

I need any people who have ‘Type 1′ or are ‘Insulin-Dependent’ to
take part.

I am new to the group

Wednesday, January 7th, 2004

Hi my name is Karen this is my first message to this group. My experience
has been with my mother who was type 1, my husband who is type 2, his dad
who was type 2, and my daughter who was just diagnosed last June with type
1. I find myself becoming a little obsessed with the subject of diabetes,
because I know what is down the road for my daughter who is 10. My mother
and I found a number of years ago that a low carb. diet was the only way to
control b.s. without taking huge amounts of insulin. We read Adkins,
Protein Power and several others, and found this was the way we all should
be eating. The silly points system they wanted my daughter on just didn’t
make sense. I had some very heated discussions with the dietitians and
nurses at the hospital. The dietitian asked where my degree in nutrition
was from, and I told her it was from real life experiences, cooking for my
mom in her last few years, I learned from all of the mistakes I made! When
I plan meals they start with a decent piece of protein then add low carb
veggies then some carbs like berries or melons. Keeping in mind that you

Re: Digest Number 562

Tuesday, January 6th, 2004

Dear Folks,

I am newly diagnosed (at age 57) with diabetes, although I know a great deal
about it from self-study and working, as an herbalist, with diabetics. How
I missed seeing the symptoms in myself will remain one of my life’s great
mysteries. I began looking immediately for a forum with a view towards
curing or reversing the disease and stumbled upon this one. Just reading
the description on the home page and I knew I had found the right people to
be with. I am most grateful to have found you.

With my knowledge of natural healing, I was able to pretty much stabilize my
blood sugar with very minimal meds within four days, although it had been
way over 400. Now I intend to rebuild things to get off the meds entirely.

There is one thing which totally confuses me, however, and I’m wondering if
