HbgA1c formula

Wednesday, December 31st, 2003

Cross posting so not to miss anyone.
A person on the newsgroup alt.support.diabetes has presented the
mathematical formula that connects the BG (in mg/dl units) to the HgbA1c
number; it is

BG(mg/dl) = 30 [HgbA1c - 2 ]

So the normal BG of 120 mg/dl infers a HgbA1c of 6.0

The lab reports my HMO sends to patients lists the following:
excellant control HgbA1c less than 6.1
good control 6.2 to 7.5
fair control 7.6 - 8.9
poor control greater than 9.0

Flour nutritionals

Tuesday, December 30th, 2003

On one of the diabetes elist that I read someone asked about the carb
differences between various flours. I have forgotten on which list the
query was posed so am sending to all. I apologise for some readers
having to endure more than one copy of this.

I consulted the ingrediant list in MasterCook Deluxe 4.0 for Macintosh
and deduced the following: now these numbers are grams per 100 gram of
flour except for sodium which is in milligram.

plain flour 0.8 cup, 364 cal, 76.3 carb, 2.9 fiber, 10.3 protein, 1.6
sodium
all purpose flour - same
white flour - same
whole grain flour .83 cup, 339 cal, 72.6 carb, 12.2 fiber, 13.7 protein,
5 sodium

Re: insulin and strips on ebay

Saturday, December 27th, 2003

Hey, I saw these listed on Ebay along with a few others but I have dealt with
this
seller before for strips and insulin . I pay out of pocket and need all the
price
breaks I can get. Thought some of you could too. Are there any places that will
subsidize
the cost of supplies? I work, just no insurance :0(

Welcome to the group. Please post more, we love to hear all the
different stories. I don’t know anything about Lantus, but I interested
in learning more. I take Amaryl - when I don’t eat right and exercise. I
take 2000mg of glucophage every day.

I just joined a gym and am going back on the Atkins diet next week. I
just couldn’t do it this week.

My goal is to lose 40 more pounds, exercise at least 6 days a week and
get off the meds. I have been type 2 for 10 years and just now starting
to see complications, so I want to nip them in the bud.

Good to talk to you.

Fwd: rosin potatoes

Thursday, December 25th, 2003

Someone on one of these lists asked about rosin potatoes quite some time
ago. I just got this and am passing along. Don’t remember which list so
sending to all I know about. Sorry if this is a repeater on some
peoples’ machines.

John,

My family prepared rosin potatoes back in the ’50s and ’60s by boiling
rosin in a large cast iron pot suspended from a tripod over an open
fire. The potatoes are tossed in and cooked for an hour to an hour and
a half. Then pull them out with large tongs, wrap in newspaper twisted
at both ends, slice through the middle, and eat with a spoon.
By holding on to the twisted part of the newspaper its almost like

Diabetic Fruitcake Nutritionals

Tuesday, December 23rd, 2003

Somebody on one of these groups posted a diabetic fruitcake recipe. You
will have to divide by the number of slices you get and how many slices
make a serving. By the way, the original didn’t say anything about
adding brandy or wrapping the cake in bourbon-soaked cheesecloth.
