Re: Effexor and low blood sugar
I went to the doctor on Thursday. My blood sugar was 180 that morning
after taking amaryl and glucophage the day before.
The pain in my legs, ankles, feet, hands, forearms was so bad. I saw a
commercial on TV about Baycol from an attorney. After 6 months on Baycol
I developed terrible pain in my side, back and legs. The neurolgist said
it was probably shingles that were on the inside and I have developed
PHN (post herpatic neurothpathy). so I took Amatriplene, Neurontin, and
tegratol. This made my blood sugar in the morning go from around 180 to
380 and my blood pressure went up. The neurologist said this was
impossible, he was not giving me enough medicine to do this.
I dropped the Atkins diet at this time even though I had lost 30 pounds.
I ate moderately, hoping that by adding some carbs, I could get better.
After 4 months, my regular doctor said he wanted to put me on insulin
and blood pressure medicine. I was now on Actos, glucopahge, amaryl and
the above meds for PHN. I said no. I quit taking the Amatriplene,
Neurontin, and tegratol. I was in pain, but I could still function.
My blood pressure returned to normal and my blood sugar went down to 200
to 225 in the morning and 160 at night.
He tested me for Rhabdomyolysis a condition that can be caused by the
Baycol, but I want know until Monday if I have this.
He also gave me Effexor for pain and anxiety attacks ( I have always had
this).
After 3 days on this meds, I feel very drugged, but my blood sugar is
now 78. I can barely hold my head up. I haven’t taken any amaryl today.
Does anyone know if this drug can lower your blood sugar this much.
My blood sugar hasn’t been under 100 in 15 years. The drug isn’t
suspossed to to kick in for 2 weeks, but I could feel a drowsy feeling
in about 2 hours. My pain is dulled, but not gone.
When you blood sugar goes from 350 to 78 in three weeks, how long will
it be until I feel normal again? Or will I ever feel normal again?
I feel very confused over this entire situation.

I want it low. If I could be between 80 and 100, that would be great.
The problem is that the up’s and down’s are unbearable.
9:00 AM - 150
Ate bacon and eggs - no carbs - one glucotrol, one effexor
At 3PM yesterday - 78
Ate tuna salad - no carbs
5PM - 120
Ate bar-b-que and slaw - some carbs
10:00 PM - 175
Took one amaryl (4mg) and one glucotrol (500mg)
9:00 AM - 150
Does anyone have anyway to stabalize the blood sugar? Mine, no matter
what I eat or what meds I take always seem to have 50 to 100 point
swings and it feels awful.
Thanks for all the help.

Thanks for the info. I make my own Bar-b-que and it is very low carb,
because I use my own homemade sauce. Last night the blood sugar ran
between 90 and 150, but I did feel better. Maybe I am getting used to
being between the 80’s and 90’s to 150’s rather than 200’s to 280’s.
Thanks again.

<Is it possible that your feelings are not caused by your blood sugar?>
Anything is possible, God knows I have had enough stress this year to
bring down a mountain. My son died, I have some kind of nerve damage and
couldn’t get out of the bed for 2 months (either shingles or reaction
from Baycol, still waiting for a diagnose), my son-in-law has been out
of work for 4 months and I got layed off two weeks ago.
But, when my blood sugar is 78 to 90, my heart races and I shake inside.
When it is 150 to 180, I actually feel better. But maybe this is a
period of adjustment. I thought you should feel better when it came
down.
The effexor must be a miracle drug. I haven’t blood sugars this low in
10 years.
Thanks for the help.
