Re: Effexor and low blood sugar

Friday, October 24th, 2003

I went to the doctor on Thursday. My blood sugar was 180 that morning
after taking amaryl and glucophage the day before.

The pain in my legs, ankles, feet, hands, forearms was so bad. I saw a
commercial on TV about Baycol from an attorney. After 6 months on Baycol
I developed terrible pain in my side, back and legs. The neurolgist said
it was probably shingles that were on the inside and I have developed
PHN (post herpatic neurothpathy). so I took Amatriplene, Neurontin, and
tegratol. This made my blood sugar in the morning go from around 180 to
380 and my blood pressure went up. The neurologist said this was
impossible, he was not giving me enough medicine to do this.

I dropped the Atkins diet at this time even though I had lost 30 pounds.
I ate moderately, hoping that by adding some carbs, I could get better.

Hi only just started

Thursday, October 23rd, 2003

Hi
I’ve just come back from the optician to be told my eye is
deteriorating and I will have to see a specialist. I am really
scared. I am 0-type and wonder how I am going to cope with the diet.
I have not been to the doctor as requested as I only found out a few
days ago and will have to take a trip for a month and don’t know what
to do in the meantime–is there anyone who can help. I am pretty sure
I have Type 2 as I have had most of the symptoms for a long time. I
took a test at the doctor’s and was clear but thought at the time I
was supposed to be fasting–anyway, I am really confused and scared
and would REALLY appreciate anything you could tell me if you are 0.
thanks so much
Kae

Hello Robert,

<lots of people including myself are controlling type II BSL’s very well
with diet and exercise.

I believe if you re-read what I’ve said, or even what I believe I’ve
implied, I don’t believe I suggested otherwise. If I did, I was unskilled,
and need to say so w/ greater skill. What I’m saying, is be VERY careful of
strange capsules, herbs, ~treatments~ and so forth… that haven’t been
proven, or tested.

<take control instead of just doing what the doctor said. I hope other
patients chose the natural route instead of pills.

<Jeff looking severely confused> I know I never said otherwise to that.

breakfast and intro

Tuesday, October 21st, 2003

Hi,

My name is Caitlyn and I’m a 35 year old type 1 diabetic. Up until
recently, I’ve not been that great about diet but now am going to get
serious about it.

My question is, what would be a good breakfast? My dietician told me that
half a lenders bagel with 2 teaspoons of cream cheese and a cup of
tea(unsweetened) would be acceptable. I’m wanting other suggestions because
I can’t eat bagels and cream cheese every single day for the rest of my
life!

Thanks,

Lysine

I got the bottle and got the correct spelling - sorry. It is an amino
acid with B-6. 25 years ago, a guy at GNC told me to give to my husband
who got fever blisters.

A couple of months ago on the internet, a guy told me that when his
nerve damage from shingles reactivates, he takes around 3000 to 4000 mgs
a day for a few days and it goes away.

That’s why I am trying it. Beyond that I don’t know much more and yes it
did get rid of the fever blisters as long as he took 1000mg a day. When
he would forget to take the pills, the fever blisters would come back.

I don’t know about the Neurontin. Now that I am off all the meds, I
might could start Neurotin again. My blood sugar is the best it has been
in 5 years, but suffer with the hands and feet and some pain still in my
side.

I started the butcher’s broom and large doses of Lysiene and will see. I
sure need a doctor that could help, but to no avail.

neuropathy

Wednesday, October 8th, 2003

Does exercise help neuropathy? My hands and feet tingle and burn ever
since I had internal shingles with nerve damage (post herpatic
neuralgia). I originally had extreme pain in my side. I now have itching
in the back, tingling and burning in the hands and feet.

Can anything help me?

I was taking neurotin, amatriplyene and tegratol and it did stop the
extreme pain. I stopped the meds because my blood pressure and blood
sugar went up. Now I just live with the itching and burning.

After 3 weeks off the meds my blood pressure was normal and my blood
sugar is now 125 to 180 instead of being in the 300’s. Yesterday my
blood sugar was actually 105. I am also not dieting at all right now.
