Origin of disease

Sunday, June 22nd, 2003

Does anyone have any theories as to why they got this disease in the
first place? Virus? Heavy metals poisoning? Diabetic professionals
that I meet sort of gasp a little to learn that I, at 33, have just
been diagnosed as a type 1. My son is disabled and we are
contstantly
trying to track the cause of his disease- mercury poisoning, vaccines
etc. Also, what about a cure? Again, the diabetic professional
community seems to be primarily interested in treating my symptoms
and
not the insult that caused this. Please don’t laugh too hard at my
niave questions :0), any info. would be appreciated.
Thank you!

Just Diagnosed- a thank you to all

Sunday, June 15th, 2003

Hello new listmates,
Thank you to all for your responses to my initial questions about
diet. I can see this is a fiesty list. If I may focus on myself
again, some of you had mentioned a C-Peptide test to see if I was
producing any insulin. My results of this test were 0.7 which is low
but not awful according to my doctor. The reference range was 0.8 to
4.0. I have not seen a specialist yet- that’s tomorrow. He will put
me on insulin and that is where my concern lies. I have no problem
with the shots or the hassle- I just want to be able to control this
otherwise if I can. I enjoy a protein rich diet although my doctor is
concerned that my kidneys will suffer and that ketosis will result.
I
am 110 lbs (have been most of my adult life) so burning fat is not my
goal. I do have a concern about gaining weight on insulin too. I
have
