Just Diagnosed- a thank you to all

Hello new listmates,
Thank you to all for your responses to my initial questions about
diet. I can see this is a fiesty list. If I may focus on myself
again, some of you had mentioned a C-Peptide test to see if I was
producing any insulin. My results of this test were 0.7 which is low
but not awful according to my doctor. The reference range was 0.8 to
4.0. I have not seen a specialist yet- that’s tomorrow. He will put
me on insulin and that is where my concern lies. I have no problem
with the shots or the hassle- I just want to be able to control this
otherwise if I can. I enjoy a protein rich diet although my doctor is
concerned that my kidneys will suffer and that ketosis will result.
I
am 110 lbs (have been most of my adult life) so burning fat is not my
goal. I do have a concern about gaining weight on insulin too. I
have

read that it can be a vicious cycle- take insulin to control your
diabetes, weight shoots up which is bad for your diabetes etc.
My blood sugars have been ranging from 160-250 with medication
alone. I have not yet started any exersize regime. Would it be okay
in your opinions to opt. NOT for insulin for another month to see if
I
can regulate with diet and exersize? Your opinions will absolutely
NOT be taken as medical advice, I have just learned through dealing
with my son’s metabolic issues that patients usually know and care
more than there doctor’s do.
Thanks very much,
