Hello everyone! My name is Tina. I’m 21 years old. My mother
suffers from diabetes (type I). She has had diabetes since she was
    13 and now she’s 40! She’s very lucky. I don’t know anyone who has
had the disease for that long. Her eyesight is still good, and her
kidneys are still pretty healthy too. However, a resent doctors
visit revealed that she is starting to have circulation problems.
She has terrible black spots on her feet and at the base of her
legs. The doctor said that they would never go away either. She
also found that she has a thyroid disease that was causing her hair
to fall out. She’s very upset about it. The fact that she now has 2
diseases was almost more than she could bare! I have taken care of
my mom my whole life so I know a lot about the disease and the way it
affects your family. I would be more than happy to try and give
advice to anyone who needs it. Also, I hope that the members of this
group will help me too. It’s very hard to watch someone you love

    suffer so much.

    God Bless,
    Tina

    Hello Tina,

It is a hard, impossible thing to watch those we love and care about, suffer
If we were able we would remove that from them. However a couple of things
    to keep in mind.

    Your mom’s 40, don’t bury her quite YET, ok >: >!!!!!?

We are sorry to hear she now has two conditions to balance, and cope with to
    her best ability.

It is often hardest for those who do not have the disease to watch their
loved ones, who do, suffer with it. We have all kinds of nasty challenges,
problems, some you know of, others we shelter you from, and probably don’t
volunteer, unless or until its necessary.

Who wants to share all the bad stuff, right???

Being the ~watchee~ as your mother is, I know with absolute certainty that
watching a bad reaction, or knowing of one is an impossible situation, for
all involved Its not "your" disease, but your knowledge, your awareness and
you ARE a participant purely by virtue of the knowledge having seen the
event(s), right? I was in a relationship with a lady who was diabetic like
myself at one time, and it taught me the other side, the side my family,
    friends had endured.

You want to protect her, prevent the problems if possible.

Some take that to extremes, become the "sugar police". Others sluff it off,
and cope with the situation, whatever form it may take, and continue onward
with no recriminations. All types/kinds of reactions and coping strategy one
can use. Some better than others.

There is no winning this "game". You stand watch and do the very best you
can as the diabetic, the person standing at the mouth of the proverbial cave
and hope the "dragon" stays the hell asleep. No matter how many partners,
companions, family one has, first and last, we are the only ones, as
diabetics who can do it. We’re trapped in these bodies, the challenge(s) are
    ours….

You fight the best you can….

    Be well,

    Hi There,
I’m new to the group. I’m a type 2 insulin dependent diabetic. I
just started taking insulin a couple of months ago. I was diagnosed
5 or 6 years ago and my disease is progressing rapidly. Mostly
because of my denial and inability to control my diet. The shots
were a wake up call and I’m starting to eat better. Still haven’t
got my sugars under control but working really hard at it. My doctor
just started me on Lantus and Novolog two days ago. Wish me luck and
any advise is more than welcom. -Hits

    Hi Everyone,

I am new to the group and even newer to Diabetes.

I would like to know if anyone can explain the results
of urine tests to me. If both Glucose and Ketones
show negative what does that mean and what should the
results show if you are attempting to cure Diabetes
successfully with diet? Is there some figure I should
    be aiming for????

Can anyone help me with diet? What foods to avoid
completely and what Fruits, Veges and other foods are
okay? Also what supplementation is the most
    beneficial?

Any information or even web addresses where I can
research this subject, would be sincerely appreciated.

    Many thanks,
    Regards,
    Lauren
